Commerce Marketers Connect TV, Media Operations and Retail Audiences to Protect Margins

Chime, Basis, Mediaocean, CMI Media Group and Compas show how connected systems can improve accountability and economics.

Chime, Basis, Mediaocean, CMI Media Group and Compas are connecting brand measurement, cross-channel delivery and back-office data as commerce marketers pursue stronger margins and accountable sales.

Chime Senior Vice President of Growth Nick Fairbairn is pressing marketers to stop treating brand building and performance marketing as opposing strategies. Speaking with ADWEEK Chief Brand and Community Officer Jenny Rooney at Brandweek 2026 in Atlanta, Fairbairn said television can be measured with performance-style rigor by tracking traffic spikes, enrollment and other real-time signals. He previously applied a full-funnel model at Dollar Shave Club to support a Super Bowl investment, estimating how television could move unaware viewers into consideration and then capturing demand through direct response.

Fairbairn said Chime has also seen lower-production testimonial creative improve consideration and brand-love measures, sometimes matching or exceeding more cinematic advertising. His broader message is that production polish should not be confused with brand impact. He also warned that purchasing an AI tool does not constitute transformation; adoption requires tested use cases, workflow design, product understanding and active leadership.

That demand for accountable, connected marketing extends into agency operations. In a sponsored AdExchanger article, Basis Executive Vice President of Client Development Michael Olson described how manual reconciliation erodes margins when agencies must compare contracts, platform delivery reports, publisher invoices and client billing across disconnected systems. Slow reconciliation can delay collections for weeks or months, while agencies may have to pay publishers before advertisers pay them.

Basis and Mediaocean are addressing that problem through an integration with Mediaocean Prisma. The arrangement connects planning, activation and actualized omnichannel campaign data in Basis, passes a cleaned data set into Prisma for reconciliation and invoicing, and allows Prisma changes to flow back into Basis. Olson argues that this orchestration model lets agencies retain specialized technology while reducing repetitive administrative work and improving visibility into receivables and payables.

CMI Media Group and Compas are pursuing a related cross-channel strategy through Ad Astra, a technology division introduced in June 2026 under Oleg Korenfeld, group president of tech and platforms, and Chief Product Officer Jose Ferreira. Its Orchestrator product sequences messages across addressable channels and uses market signals to automate subsequent actions. Ferreira reported statistically significant gains in engagement and sales outcomes among CMI Media Group and Compas clients, although the sponsored Digiday report supplied no figures.

ConsumerEXP analysis: For video-commerce operators, the opportunity is not measurement alone. Retail media can add supplier-funded advertising revenue to merchandise sales, but fragmented campaign systems, weak attribution and labor-intensive reconciliation can consume those gains. Practical Ecommerce illustrated the upside with a hypothetical $1,000 newsletter sponsorship producing a 75% contribution margin, versus 25% for a $100 merchandise sale. The likely winners will connect television, streaming, digital response data, supplier advertising and billing without mistaking announced technology for proven financial performance.
