TiVo unveiled a broad expansion of TiVo OS on September 3, adding hundreds of global and local free ad-supported streaming television channels while introducing new discovery, sports and commerce capabilities. The Xperi-owned company announced the changes ahead of IFA 2026, held September 4–8 in Berlin, positioning its operating system to carry more programming and run on a wider range of smart TVs and connected entertainment devices.

The expanded TiVo Channels offering includes a new mini guide intended to speed channel navigation. TiVo also added personalized content carousels that surface programming based on viewers’ preferences. For sports audiences, the company improved how live games and events appear across search, recommendations and the TiVo OS home screen, including real-time event promotion and tools designed to help viewers discover, follow and access sports programming.

TiVo OS now supports DVB-I, which extends the DVB standard to internet-delivered television. The integration allows viewers to find and watch local broadcast channels over an IP connection without a traditional aerial or antenna, an important addition for TiVo’s expansion in Europe.

The company is also preparing Agent TiVo, a forthcoming generative AI-powered discovery product. TiVo said the feature will let viewers describe what they want to watch through natural conversation and receive personalized recommendations and guidance, rather than relying only on conventional keyword searches. Separately, TiVo is collaborating with IRCODE to combine artificial intelligence and computer vision for recognizing content on screen and enabling immediate interaction. TiVo said the partnership could support commerce, advertising, content discovery and companion experiences, creating additional monetization opportunities for platform partners.

On the hardware side, TiVo reduced the operating system’s memory footprint so it can run on devices with as little as 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of eMMC storage. TiVo said that optimization could lower manufacturers’ bills of materials and support more efficient television configurations.

TiVo also named Tal Bone senior vice president and general manager of TiVo OS. Bone previously served as vice president of global product and chief technology officer at VIDAA, Hisense’s smart-TV operating system.

ConsumerEXP analysis: Taken together, the changes increase TiVo OS’s influence over channel distribution and program discovery while giving manufacturers a potentially lower-cost platform. They also create more surfaces through which FAST programming, live sports, advertising and interactive commerce can reach television audiences.
