Netflix Cuts 2026 Ad Forecast as Delayed Tools Test Its CTV Growth Strategy
The streamer is adding conversion measurement and programmatic capabilities after trimming expected advertising revenue by $300 million.
Netflix cut its 2026 ad revenue forecast from about $3 billion to $2.7 billion while expanding Netflix Ads Suite with conversion measurement, audience targeting and programmatic integrations.

Netflix reduced its 2026 advertising revenue forecast by 10% as slower-than-expected product rollouts undercut an otherwise profitable third quarter and intensified pressure on its connected-TV advertising strategy. The company now expects about $2.7 billion in annual ad revenue, down from its previous projection of approximately $3 billion. Netflix also set full-year revenue guidance at $51.1 billion, 0.2% below the midpoint of its prior range. (s22.q4cdn.com)
Investors focused on that shortfall despite Netflix reporting third-quarter revenue of $12.87 billion, up 11.8% year over year, and operating income of $4.46 billion, up 37.3%. Its operating margin expanded to 34.6% from 28.2%. Netflix shares fell about 6% in premarket trading on October 21 after the earnings release and a fourth-quarter revenue forecast that was below Wall Street estimates. (thedesk.net)
Co-CEO Greg Peters said Netflix had established aggressive growth targets and an ambitious advertising product roadmap but was running behind that plan. Advertising revenue is still expected to grow more than 80% during 2026, while subscription revenue has outperformed the company’s expectations. Peters said advertiser demand remained strong and identified full-funnel optimization, new formats and broader first-party measurement and reporting as continuing priorities. (marketingdive.com)
Netflix paired the forecast reduction with additions to Netflix Ads Suite. Nicolle Pangis, Netflix’s vice president of U.S. and Canada advertising, announced an enhanced Conversion API and a new Netflix Pixel. Together, the tools will let advertisers onboard more than 20 lower-funnel conversion events and use Netflix’s first-party systems for conversion-lift studies, attribution and A/B testing. Advertisers can also use conversion data to build and refine audience segments. (about.netflix.com)
Netflix is also extending programmatic audience activation to The Trade Desk, supplementing existing connections with Yahoo DSP and Amazon DSP. Yahoo DSP advertisers can measure single-publisher attribution within programmatic Netflix campaigns, with in-DSP measurement planned for The Trade Desk. Separately, Netflix said it added CTV marketplace partnerships with MercadoLibre in Latin America and Adform in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. (adweek.com)
ConsumerEXP analysis: The forecast cut shows that premium streaming inventory alone does not guarantee advertising growth. Netflix must deliver interoperable buying, targeting and outcome measurement quickly enough to compete for budgets already flowing through established CTV and programmatic platforms.
